Här kan man ta del av en intressant diskussion som ägde rum för ett halvår sedan i Bratislava mellan Kenan Malik och Samuel Abraham. Där diskuteras bland annat olika aspekter av multikulturalism, ungefär på samma sätt (och med utgångspunkt i ungefär samma distionktioner) som har skett vid åtskilliga tillfällen tidigare här på bloggen. Och som för övrigt sker även i det nya nummer av Axess som kommer ut på tisdag, där vi i temasektionen diskuterar multikulturalism, kulturkonservatism och nationalism utifrån ett kosmopolitiskt perspektiv.
Kenan Malik tangerar även flera av de synpunkter som framförts här på bloggen rörande den svenska utvecklingen, till exempel om SD:s likheter med vänsterns multikulturalister, men också rörande behovet av öppen debatt, vikten av att ventilera frågor om integraton och assimilation och inte bara plädera för censur av idiotiska åsikter:
"Supporters of the far-Right often argue, "Muslims or blacks or Hindus are able to celebrate their identity, their history, their heritage, why can't we? We want to celebrate white history. We want to promote white heritage." In a sense, that is the biggest indictment of multiculturalism: it turns racism into another form of cultural identity. If you look at the language of the far-Right, it is the language of difference. It is the language of multiculturalism.
The way to deal with it is this: first, we need to have a completely open debate about race, immigration, multiculturalism and so on, which is why you need the fullest extension of free speech. In Sweden, one of the campaign adverts for the Sweden Democrats tried to compare the treatment of white pensioners with that of burqa clad immigrants. It was banned, withdrawn from TV for promoting hate speech. It was an outrageous, stupid decision. The argument of the ad is not an argument that I accept, but it is an argument that many do accept and it's a perfectly legitimate political argument to have."
